Gallagher serves, assists in split

LATROBE, PA - The Bethany College women's volleyball team finished the opening weekend by splitting a pair of matches Saturday at the 2024 Saint Vincent Bearcats Classic. 

MATCH 1: FRANCISCAN 3, BETHANY 1 (17-25, 25-21, 25-22, 25-20)

After claiming the opening set, Bethany dropped the final three in falling to the Barons. The Bison hit .262 in the opening set but couldn't replicate those numbers. 

INSIDE THE BOX

  • Junior Lesley Sanchez finished with a career-high 10 kills on 42 attempts. Junior Adriana Gilliam added eight kills to go along with her 19 digs. 
  • Two other Bison - senior Anna Taylor (29) and senior Talia Gallagher (17) - recorded double-figure digs. Taylor has registered at least 20 digs three times this season and eight times in her career. 
  • Gallagher added 36 assists and four service aces. 

MATCH 2: BETHANY 3, HOLLINS 0

For the second straight day, the Bison concluded the play for the day with a non-conference sweep.

INSIDE THE BOX

  • Taylor, for the fourth time this season and ninth in her career, finished with at least 20 digs, recorded 22 in the straight-set win. 
  • Gilliam led the team with nine kills on 23 attempts.
  • Gallagher turned in another phenomenal match from the service line with five service aces. She has 19 aces through four matches

Bethany (2-2) travels to Westerville, Ohio Friday to face Otterbein at 4 p.m. and Westminster (MO) at 6 p.m.
