Nickerson selected CoSIDA Academic All-District

BETHANY, W.Va. (May 4) – Bethany College junior second baseman Ryan Nickerson (Huntington Beach, Calif./Huntington Beach) has been named a College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District II selection announced the organization Tuesday afternoon.
Nickerson is now eligible for consideration for the CoSIDA Academic All-America Team, which will be announced later this month.
Nickerson, a three-year member of the Bison baseball team, leads the team with a .351 batting average and 20 RBI this season and has posted a .972 fielding percentage while starting all 34 of the team's games at second base.
A double major in finance and managerial economics, Nickerson maintains a 3.84 cumulative GPA. Regularly recognized as a member of Bethany's President's and Dean's Lists, he was named to the PAC's Academic Honor Roll following the spring 2016 semester and was named the PAC Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Scholar-Athlete of the Month for March.
The Huntington Beach, California native has served as the president of Bethany's SGA and is a member of the Sigma Beta Delta international business, management, and administration honorary. He has worked as the chief executive officer for the College's McCann Student Investment Fund, which is managed entirely by students, making real investments in real-world financial markets, with real dollars, and with the College's staff accountant in its division of business and finance. Nickerson also sits on Bethany's Strategic Planning Committee and has participated as a student representative on the search committee for Bethany's recently-hired Provost and Dean of the Faculty, Dr. Joseph Lane.
He also volunteers with the School Of Bright Promise in Wintersville, Ohio and has worked with numerous youth baseball camps in his hometown of Huntington Beach, California.
To qualify for the academic all-district honors, student-athletes must maintain a cumulative 3.30 GPA or higher and must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at their institution. Nominees must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games and must be a starter or important reserve with legitimate athletic credentials.
The Academic All-District teams include student-athletes divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. The teams include NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II and NCAA Division III participants, while the College Division Academic All-America Team combines NAIA, Canadian and two-year schools.
