BETHANY, W. Va. – Bethany College Director of Athletics Jill Willson has announced the hiring of a familiar face to the Ohio Valley and has tabbed Jeani Humpe to lead the men's and women's swimming and diving teams.

"I am extremely delighted to have Jeanie join our Athletic Department" said Jill Willson. "Jeani's reputation and ties in the Ohio Valley are tremendous. Jeani's passion for swimming and her commitment to excellence and developing our athletes into outstanding young men and women embodies who we are and who we aspire to be as a College and as an Athletics Department."

"It's an honor to be welcomed to the town and family of Bethany College" said Humpe.

Humpe brings 20-plus years of coaching experience to Bethany College. Humpe has experienced success on both the boys' and girls' side of the Wheeling Central Catholic Maroon Knights teams. With the boys, she led them to the Ohio Valley Athletic Conference Small School Division 2012 Runner-up position.  She also received the 2014 Boys Class 1A-3A OVAC Coach of the Year award.

On the girls side, Humpe guided the 2014 Wheeling Central Catholic High team to a OVAC Small School Division Runner-up finish. She was voted the 2012 Girls' Class 1A-3A OVAC Coach of the Year honors.

Most recently, Humpe was honored by the WVSSAC by being named NFHS Coaches Association Coach of the Year for swimming in the 2019-20 season.

In addition to her Wheeling Central Catholic coaching success, Humpe has been in charge of the Wheeling YMCA Swim Team's beginner swimmers for 20 years. She also has directed the Head Coordinator/Coach for the Wells Township Summer League the last 16 years.

"I would like to thank AD Jill Wilson, President Jaime Caridi, Brian Sansom and Jen Windmiller to be given this opportunity to fulfill a dream job coaching college swimming" said Humpe.

Humpe began her duties this week.
