Bison Smash 18 Hits in W

LAKE MYRTLE, FL. – Bethany earned their first win of spring break against SUNY Poly. The Bison had a late inning offensive showing, putting up the most runs of the season.

Bethany was up 4-1 through three innings. They played a lot of small ball early, with the only extra base hit being a Josh Speaker double to drive in the fourth run. That would change in the later innings.

The Bison ended the game smoking eight total doubles. Payton Zupko and Nico Heidt had two doubles each on top of an RBI.

While the doubles were a key part of the victory, Derek Black stuck to the small ball theme in the first half of the game. Black went 5-6 on the day hitting all singles. He accounted for over half of the Bison's runs, driving in three RBI and scoring four runs for a total of seven runs produced.

Trey Mantle had a solid start on the mound. After giving up a three run home run in the third, Mantle locked in to throw five consecutive innings without an earned run. His final line read eight innings pitched, six strikeouts, and four earned runs.

This marked back to back games where the Bison have had double digit hits. Bethany has remained aggressive at the place, which served them well in this win.

Bethany will look to keep the offense rolling tomorrow against Mount Saint Mary out of New York, whom have given up at least 10 hits the last two games. First pitch will be at 6:00 p.m.
