Bennett Throws Six Scoreless in Bison W

XENIA, OHIO – The Bethany Bison forced a split against a very good Wittenberg Tigers baseball team. Wittenberg came off a win against #13 Baldwin Wallace, but couldn't get the bats rolling against a stingy Bethany pitching staff.

The Bison were the first to strike on the day. Derek Black continued his hot start with an RBI single in the second inning. Despite moving a runner to third, that was the only run the Bison would score throughout the rest of the game.

A Tiger triple in the bottom of the inning tied the game, but that didn't seem to be an issue with the Bison wizardry on the mound.

Sonny Peluchette finished with little trouble through five innings, even pitching his way out of a bases loaded jam to keep the game tied. It was the bottom of the sixth that saw the Bison fall behind.

Peluchette found himself in another bases loaded situation. With a pitch count getting high, Bethany called on the bullpen. Lucas Mackey came into a situation with two outs. Mackey walked the next two runs in, putting the Bison in a hole they couldn't dig out of.

Game one went the way of Wittenberg 3-1.

Logan Bennett gave a masterful performance in game two. The starter went six scoreless innings, only allowing two hits. Bennett got put on his heels in the fourth inning. The Tigers had runners on second and third with only one out. The veteran stayed strong, pitching two infield outs to strand both runners in scoring position.

Bennett showed no panic thanks to his team giving him some run support in the top part of that fourth. The Bison scored two runs off small ball. Nick Roell lined a leadoff single into right center. Derek Black took a beanball to put multiple runners on base.

The middle of the order came through to put the Bison ahead. Grant Schaffner drove a single the opposite way for an RBI. Gian DeGenova continued the trend, tanking an opposite field double to give the Bison their second run of the game.

Two was all the Bison needed, with Payton Zupko claiming his first save of the year.

Bethany will travel to Toronto High School's baseball field for a doubleheader against Penn State Beaver. First pitch Saturday will be at noon.
