BB: Solid Pitching Leads to Sweep
TORONTO, Ohio – The Bethany College baseball team swept a non-conference doubleheader from Penn State Beaver Tuesday at the Knights Baseball Complex.
GAME ONE: BETHANY 10, PSU-BEAVER 3
Bethany exploded for seven runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to create breathing room as the Bison cruised to the win in the opener.
After getting just one hit in 11 attempts with runners in scoring position through the first five innings, the bats came alive in the sixth. Bethany was 5-of-8 with runners in scoring position in the sixth inning alone to push the seven runs across the plate extending the one-run lead to eight heading into the final inning.
Up until that point, each time Bethany dented the plate the Lions had an answer. The Bison scored a run on a wild pitch in the first and PSUB answered in the second. A sacrifice fly in the fourth brought home Bethany's second run and the Beavers scored in the fifth.
Bethany took the lead with a single run in the bottom of the fifth and blew the game open in the sixth.
Sophomore Zach Moenert (1-0) earned the victory in relief, allowing one earned run on two hits with a pair of strikeouts.
