BB: Bison Drop Pair to Cougars

WEST LIBERTY, WVa. - The Bethany College baseball team dropped both ends of their Presidents' Athletic Conference doubleheader with Chatham Wednesday at Kovalik Field on the campus of West Liberty University.

GAME ONE: CHATHAM 7, BETHANY 4

Bethany brought the tying run to the plate in the bottom of the ninth inning as the first four batters reached, the last two via RBI singles from Grant Schaffner and Nick Roell, with no outs.

However, pop up and double play ended the threat and the game.

It was indicative of how things went in the opening game as Bethany went 3-for-15 with runners in scoring position.

Chatham took an early lead with a run in the first inning, but Bethany had a quick answer with a pair of runs and were threatening to put a bigger number on the board as the Bison had bases loaded with one out. The Cougars quickly went to their bullpen and the rally came to a halt.

The Cougars reclaimed the lead with three runs in the second inning, added a run in the fourth and two more in the fifth.

Roell finished 2-for-5 with a double and three RBI, while Niko Heidt went 3-for-4.

Logan Bennett (2-3) allowed five runs, two earned, on three hits over 3.1 innings. Jojo Aguon, in just his second appearance, hurled three innings of scoreless relief, yielding three hits.

GAME TWO: CHATHAM 14, BETHANY 5

Jaden Nestor-Fox and Devin Toothman each drove in a pair of runs as Bethany fell in the nightcap.

Nestor-Fox was 2-for-2 with a double and two RBI, while Toothman had a two RBI single in his lone at-bat of the game.

Zach Moenert (1-2) allowed five runs, three earned, on four hits over three innings. In his first appearance of the season, Cole Mooney allowed two unearned runs on one hit in his lone inning.

Bethany (6-10 overall, 1-3 PAC) travels to Thiel 1 p.m. Saturday for a PAC doubleheader.
