Women's Lacrosse: Mailloux's goal in triple overtime lifts Bison past Ravens

BETHANY, W.Va. – The Bethany College women's lacrosse hosted Anderson University (Ind.) Sunday afternoon in a non-conference tilt. The Bison earned a triple-overtime 9-8 win over the Ravens.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Anderson found the back of the net first but Bethany answered quickly from a Joanna Melita goal. Just 11 seconds later, Alexa Taylor gives the Bison a 2-1 lead with 10.37 to go in the first. The Ravens knotted the game at 2-2 and regained the lead with under five minutes to go and tacked on one more goal before the end of the first period.
  • Joanna Melita cut the Raven lead to one with a goal to begin the second quarter. Riley Tull completed the hat trick to extend the Ravens' lead, 5-3. The Ravents took a 6-3 lead heading into the halftime break.
  • Anderson continued to hold momentum while extending their lead to 7-3. However, the Bison kept grinding. While being a man down, Cassidy Mailloux found the back of the net with 3:27 to go in the third. With under a minute to go, Emily Wenger scored her first goal of the day, cutting the deficit to two.
  • Once again, Anderson scored the first goal of the quarter, but the Bison would not back down. Karley Trinidad and Emily Wenger brought the Bison within one. As time kept ticking the Bison kept getting opportunities to score. With a few big stops from the defense the Bison finally knotted the game at 8-8 after Jada Carter received a pass from Emily Wenger and found the back of the net.
  • The first two overtime periods went scoreless. In the third overtime both teams had opportunities to take the game. With 1:49 left, Cassidy Mailloux's shot found the back of the net to seal the Bison victory.

BY THE NUMBERS

  • The Bison outshot the Ravens 23-15.
  • Bethany went 1-for-3 on free position shots while Anderson went 2-for-5.
  • The Ravens had 35 turnovers to the Bison's 29.
