Women's Lacrosse: Mailloux’s 100th goal leads Bison past Yellow Jackets

Drew VonScio, Student Assistant for Athletic Communications

WAYNESBURG, Pa. – The Bison women's lacrosse team took to the road for a PAC contest with Waynesburg. Cassidy Mailloux scored her 100th career goal as the Green and White picked up their first conference win in 21-12 fashion.

Bethany scored the opening five goals of the game with Emily Wenger getting things started just 59 seconds in the quarter for her 10th goal of the season. Jada Carter scored her 15th of the season just 31 seconds later. Lexie Reid added two goals in the span of 25 seconds for her fourth and fifth of her freshman campaign with an assist from Alexa Taylor on both goals.

Karley Trinidad scored her 15th of the season with under five minutes gone on a free position shot before Waynesburg netted a pair of goals. Carter added her 16th and 17th less than two minutes apart. With just 46 seconds left in the opening frame, Janez Matthews posted her first collegiate goal.

Mailloux entered triple digits for goals in her career less than 90 seconds into the second quarter before Trinidad posted her 16th goal of the season. The Yellow Jackets would score four of the next five with Carter's fourth of the game sandwiched in the middle of them. Wenger, Trinidad, and Abbie Carpenter polished off the half for the Green and white. The goal for Carpenter was her first since coming back from injury and her 10th of the season.

The third quarter started the same way as the second with Mailloux finding the back of the net once again. This time, she posted two of the first four goals in the quarter as she traded goal-for-goal with the Jackets. Taylor posted her 11th before Mailloux kept the party going with her fourth of the game. Waynesburg would close out the third with another goal.

Feeding off of that late goal, the hosts would post the first three of the fourth quarter with Bethany tacking on the last three: one each from Mailloux, Carter, and Wenger. Leah Crihfield made seven saves through 45 minutes of action before Madi Wagoner made one save in the final 15 minutes of action.

Bethany returns home Tuesday night in a PAC matchup with St. Vincent as they will be under the lights once again. Game time is 7 p.m.
