Fourth Quarter Explosion Hurts Football

The Bethany College football team allowed three second-half special teams touchdowns in falling to Westminster on Homecoming, 49-7, at Don Ault Field in Bison Stadium Saturday.

Trailing by just seven at halftime, a botched punt led to a Titans touchdown early in the third period. Westminster added punt returns touchdowns of 60 and 57 yards. Thanks to the late special teams scores, Westminster scored 28 points in the fourth quarter.

After falling down 14-0, Bethany got on the board right before the end of half. Freshman quarterback Brett Phillips capped the nine-play, 51-yard drive with a five-yard scoring strike to junior Elijah Moffatt with 16 seconds remaining.

Phillips finished the game 17-of-28 for 91 yards, one touchdowns and two interceptions. Moffatt and sophomore Gerrell Leeper hauled in five passes each for 27 and 24 yards, respectively.

Freshman running back Aaran Randolph finished with 61 yards on 13 carries

Juniors Sonny Fox and Javonte Willis-Williams recorded seven tackles and a tackle for loss each for the Bison. Fox added a forced fumble, while sophomore Jamar Hansen also forced a fumble.
