Bison Nets Nearly 400 Yards of Offense
WAYNESBURG, Pa. - The Bethany College football team racked up nearly 400 yards of total offense, but the Bison turned the ball over three times in falling to Waynesburg Saturday, 34-14, in Presidents' Athletic Conference action.
Bethany took the opening drive of the game 75 yards for a touchdown as freshman Brett Phillips connected with freshman Aaran Randolph from five yards out. After Waynesburg answered with a touchdown of its own, the Bison marched right back down the field. However, back-to-back penalties stymied the drive that ended with a blocked field goal.
Waynesburg claimed the lead on the ensuing drive and was back in business following a BC fumble. The Yellow Jackets found the end zone for the third straight drive for the 20-7 lead.
After forcing a punt to start the third period, Bethany embarked on a 17-play drive. Unfortunately, the time-consuming voyage ended with no points as the Bison turned the ball over on downs.
Bethany did cash in its next drive, an eight-play, 72-drive, which was capped by a three-yard run by Phillips.
Phillips was 21-of-34 for 236 yards with one touchdown and one interception. He added 50 yards on 11 rushes and the aforementioned rushing score.
Randolph had a career-high 81 yards rushing on 16 carries and contributed 38 yards receiving. Freshman Ray Adames led the Bison with 85 yards receiving on six catches.
Defensively, junior Sonny Fox had 11 tackles, while sophomore Devan Colson added eight tackles.
Bethany (0-6) travels to Washington & Jefferson 1 p.m. Saturday.
