Softball: Bison earn sweep against Barons

STEUBENVILLE, Ohio – Bethany College softball earned two five-inning wins over Franciscan University Saturday afternoon.  

Game One Overview

Bethany 11, Franciscan 1

 

The Bison led off the first inning with a two run lead after bases loaded Katelyn Ziems single that drove in Destiny Goodnight and Morgan Huey. The Bison continued their offensive explosion in the second inning scoring four runs on three hits. Bethany led 7-0 after three innings of play.

 

The fourth inning was the game sealing inning with the Bison adding onto their already large lead. Brooke Markland tripled to lead off the inning and Haley Eyler hit her first homerun of the season to give the Bison a 9-0 lead. A few batters later, Miriam Peterson singled to drive in Trista Morris and Peterson later scored on an error by the third basemen.

 

Franciscan was able to score in the bottom of the fifth but couldn't extend the game.

 

Josie Wise earned her ninth win of the season.

Game Two Overview

Bethany 9, Franciscan 1  

Bethany led off game two similar to game one with taking an early 2-0 lead. The Bison earned their first run after Destiny Goodnight stole home followed by Brooke Markland hitting a sacrifice fly to score Mary Marshall. In the bottom of the first, Franciscan cut the lead to 2-1.

The Bison took a three run lead in the second after Angela Brandel flew out to center which allowed Alexis Holden to score. On the next batter, Destiny Goodnight drove in Ally McClelland. The Bison led 4-1 after two innings.

Bethany added to their lead in the fourth tacking on three runs and then two more in the fifth.

Shelby Barnett earned her fourth win of the season.

Bethany College Bison –16-3 (4-2 PAC)

Franciscan University Barons – 1-15 (0-6 PAC)

Up Next:

The Bison return to the diamond on Sunday, Apr. 7 when they travel north to Meadville, Pa. to face Allegheny College in a PAC showdown at 1 pm.
