Women's Basketball: Bison fall to Presidents in PAC opener

WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Bethany College women's basketball team opened Presidents' Athletic Conference play against the reigning PAC champions, Washington & Jefferson College Wednesday evening. The Presidents defeated the Bison, 61-42.   

GAME FLOW

  • Both teams were off to a slow start in the opening quarter. The Presidents were on the board first taking an early 4-0 lead. Sophomore Lindsey Garrison cut the lead in half with 6:14 left in the quarter going 2-2 from the foul line. Junior Makenzee Mason hit the Bison's first field goal with 5:03 left in the first quarter. Her three-pointer brought the Bison within one, 6-5.
  • The Presidents led 13-7 at the end of one.
  • Senior Sophie Morey scored the first points of the second quarter off of an old-fashioned three-point play. The Bison would be held scoreless while the Presidents went on a 7-0 run to extend the lead to double-digits. With 4:27 to go Alyssa Serensky made a layup off of a steal. The Bison attempted to chip away, but the Presidents answered the Bison buckets.
  • Washington & Jefferson led 29-18 heading into the halftime break.
  • In the third quarter, the Presidents would go up by as many as 25 points, holding onto a 47-27 lead heading into the final quarter of play.
  • The Bison attempted to chip away at the Presidents' lead, cutting the deficit down to 14 points, however, the Presidents answered and extended their lead back to 20 points, leaving the game out of reach.

IN THE BOX SCORE

  • Sophomore Lindsey Garrison led the Bison with 13 points. She added two steals.
  • Freshman Francesca Mulas had a career-high nine points while pulling down four boards.
  • Junior Makenzee Mason added seven points and four rebounds.

BY THE NUMBERS

  • W&J shot 40.0% (26-for-65) from the field while Bethany shot 27.6% (16-for-58).
  • The Presidents edged the Bison on rebounds, 48-36.
  • Bethany shot 88.9% from the foul line while W&J shot 75.0%.

UP NEXT

Bethany will host Waynesburg University on Saturday, Nov. 19 for a 1 pm tip-off. After the game, Bethany College will honor the Joe Kurey family with the dedication of the court.
