Women's Basketball: Bethany Throttles Past Franciscan
BETHANY, W.Va. – The Bethany College women's basketball team hosted Franciscan University for a PAC matchup inside Hummel Field House, Wednesday evening. The Bison defeated the Barons, 60-49, led by Alyssa Serensky's 14 points.
GAME FLOW
- Despite Alyssa Serensky hitting a three on Bethany's first possession the first quarter would end on with a Bison narrow, 9-4 lead. Both teams couldn't find a rhythm and had cold shooting to open the game.
- Alexis Heap opened the second quarter with a jumper and sparked the Bison offense. The Green and White led by as many as 13 points in the second. Bethany had a 27-19 lead heading into the half time break.
- Franciscan opened the third quarter with a 6-0 run cutting the deficit to 27-25. After a Bison timeout, Bella Skobel stopped the Barons' run with a jumper. Franciscan kept the game close until the Bison went on a 16-5 run. The Bison held a 49-35 lead heading into the final quarter.
- The Barons continued to battle in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Bison 14-11 points. The Barons cut the deficit to 11 but were unable to get any closer to the Bison.
IN THE BOX SCORE
- Alyssa Serensky had 14 points while Bella Skobel added 10 points.
- Alexis Heap had nine points with four steals.
- Sophie Morey had a team-high 10 rebounds.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Bethany shot 39.0% (23-59) from the field. Franciscan finished shooting 25.8% (17-66) from the field and held the advantage shooting from behind the arc at 30.0% (6-20).
- The Bison held the slight advantage on the boards, 43-40.
