Women's Basketball: Bison use balance effort to cruise past Yellow Jackets

WAYNESBURG, Pa. – Bethany College women's basketball earned a spot back in the win column after cruising to a 75-54 win over the Waynesburg Yellow Jackets Saturday afternoon.

GAME FLOW

  • Bison and Yellow Jackets went back and forth through the opening minutes of the first quarter. Anika Dansby put the Yellow Jackets on the board first but the Bison quickly knotted the game at 2-2 with a Francesca Mulas layup. The Bison closed the first quarter outscoring the Yellow Jackets, 13-6 to take a 17-10 lead.
  • Waynesburg opened the second quarter on a 6-3 run cutting the Bethany lead to four points. The Yellow Jackets continued to swarm back but the Bison were able to hold a narrow, 30-26 lead at the halftime break.
  • Alyssa Serensky opened the second half with a triple and began the Bison's strong second half performance. The Yellow Jackets cut the deficit to 35-30, but after the media timeout, the Bison went on a 7-0 run to swell the Bison lead to 42-30. Pressure defense forced Yellow Jacket turnovers and the Bison converted on back-to-back threes from Makenzee Mason and Taylor Dusenberry. Moments later, Dusenberry scored off a Waynesburg turnover. Waynesburg kept chipping at the Bethany lead but the Bison were able to extend their lead back to double-digits with seconds left on the clock when Ashleigh Wheeler found Amelia Ferguson for a layup.
  • Bethany led 51-39 after three quarters.
  • The momentum remained with the Bison in the fourth quarter. The Green and White led by as many as 21 in the final quarter to cruise to their fifth win of the season.

IN THE BOX SCORE

  • The Bison had 11 different scorers with four in double-digits.
  • Alyssa Serensky led the Bison with 14 points.
  • Makenzee Mason had 12 points with four rebounds, three assists and three steals.
  • Taylor Dusenberry had 11 points with a team-high eight rebounds. She led the Bison with four steals.
  • Bella Skobel added 10 points.

BY THE NUMBERS

  • Bethany shot 40.3% (27-67) while holding Waynesburg to 35.0% (21-60).
  • The Bison hit 11 three's while holding the Yellow Jackets to just two.
  • Both teams were even on the boards, 41-41.
  • The Bison had 18 assists, 15 steals and 27 points off turnovers.
