Women's Basketball: Bison suffer loss to Eagles

HUNTINGDON, Pa. – The Bethany College women's basketball team traveled to Juniata College for a non-conference tilt Saturday afternoon. The first half deficit was too much for the Bison to overcome, falling 57-39.

GAME FLOW

  • Makenzee Mason put the Bison on the board first hitting 1-of-2 foul shots. Turnovers plagued both teams as there were a total of 12 turnovers in the first stanza. The Eagles led 12-6 after the end of one. Mason scored all six points for the Bison.
  • Mason continued to lead the Bison in the second period, as she hit a three to start the quarter cutting the lead 12-9.  The Eagles extended their lead to 17-9 before Sophie Morey scored off a layup. A Mason three cut the deficit to three, 17-14 with just under six minutes to go. The Eagles would hold the Bison scoreless over the rest of the second stanza and ballooned their lead to 13, leading 27-14 at the half.
  • The Eagles kicked off the second half with a made three-pointer, but the Bison answered with a three-pointer of their own from Mason. The Eagles lead swelled to 19 points with under five minutes to go. Mason hit another three to cut the deficit to 36-20. In the third, the Eagles led by as many as 20 points. An Alyssa Serensky layup brought the Bison within 18 to end the quarter trailing, 43-25.
  • In the fourth, the Eagles led by as many as 23 points. The Bison and Eagles both scored 14 points in the final stanza.

BY THE NUMBERS

  • Juniata shot 33.3% (20-for-60) from the field and held the Bison to 22.8% (13-for-57).
  • The Eagles were 14-for-24 from the foul line while the Bison were 7-for-18.
  • Rebounds were about even with the Eagles having the slight advantage, 49-46.
  • The Bison finished with 24 turnovers, while the Eagles had 14.
