Women's Basketball: Bison lose defensive battle to Bearcats

LATROBE, Pa. – The Bethany College women's basketball team traveled to Saint Vincent College to close out the regular season inside the Robert S. Carey Student Center Wednesday evening. In a defensive battle, Bearcats held on to a 47-38 victory over the Bison.

GAME FLOW

  • Saint Vincent took the early lead and never looked back. The Bearcats jumped out to a 7-0 lead before Taylor Dusenberry put the Bison on the board with 6:13 to go. The Bearcats held the Bison to just five points in the first stanza while taking a 12 point lead into the second quarter.
  • Bethany began to chip away at the Saint Vincent lead outscoring the Bearcats, 14-10 in the second stanza. The Bison went on a 7-2 run to cut the lead to 21-16, but the Bearcats would close out the quarter with a 6-3 run after Ella Marconi hits a layup as time expired.
  • Saint Vincent led 27-19 at the break.
  • The third quarter was a defensive battle with the Bison holding an 8-5 advantage over the Bearcats.
  • Francesca Mulas opened the fourth quarter hitting a pair of free throws to cut the deficit to 32-29. The Bearcats used a 10-0 run to extend the lead to 45-31 with 3:03 to go in the game. The Bison finished the game on a 7-2 run but the Bearcats' lead was too much for the Bison.

  • Saint Vincent held the field-goal percentage advantage shooting 29.9% (20-67) from the field, while Bethany shot 20.4 % (11-54).
  • The Bison went 11-20 from the charity stripe.
  • The Bearcats held the rebounding advantage, hitting the boards, 52-44.
