Women's Basketball: Bethany back in win column after win over Franciscan

STEUBENVILLE, Ohio – The Bethany College women's basketball team returned to Presidents' Athletic Conference competition after the new year on the road against Franciscan University Lady Barons, Tuesday evening. The Bison used a strong second half to defeat the Lady Barons, 63-42.

GAME FLOW

  • The Bison and Lady Barons both started the first stanza out with cold shooting and a combination of eight turnovers. Bethany held onto a narrow three point lead, 8-5 after one quarter of play. The Bison shot 17.6 percent from the field while the Lady Barons shot 14.3 percent.
  • In the second quarter, Makenzee Mason doubled the Bison lead with a made layup and Amelia Ferguson extended the lead to 12-5 with a made basket of her own. The Bison lead ballooned to 21-10 with under four minutes to go, however, the Lady Barons used a 10-5 run to close the gap before the half.
  • Bethany led 25-20 at halftime.
  • The Bison lead swelled to as many as 13 points throughout the third quarter, and led 42-29 heading into the final quarter.
  • In the fourth quarter, Bethany continued their hot shooting and stellar defense while extending the lead to as many as 24 points. The Bison closed the fourth quarter outscoring the Lady Barons, 21-13.

IN THE BOX SCORE

  • Bella Skobel led the Bison with 17 points.
  • Makenzee Mason had her first double-double of the season with 13 points and 11 rebounds. She had a team high seven assists.
  • Sophie Morey added 10 points for the Bison.

BY THE NUMBERS

  • Bethany outrebounded Franciscan, 52-39.
  • The Bison shot 40.0% (28-70) from the field and had 17 assists.
  • The Green and White forced 22 Franciscan turnovers and had 16 points off of turnovers.
