PITTSBURGH, Pennsylvania- The Bethany Bison tried to break even in Presidents Athletic Conference play in a road game against the Chatham Cougars. After giving up an early goal, the Bison rallied back to end the game in a 1-1 draw.
The Bison defense was stout, not allowing a single shot on goal until the 25 minute mark. Unfortunately, that first shot on goal ended up being in the goal, giving the Cougars a 1-0 lead.
The rest of the quarter was played very slow, turning into a battle of positioning. Only two total shots were taken after the Chatham goal.
The first being a sailed shot by the Cougars only three minutes from half. The second was on the counter attack after the Bethany goal kick. Jada Benjamin had an opportunity to even up the game just before halftime, but drilled the left post for a loud non-goal.
The Bethany defense stayed strong, not allowing a goal for the last 42 minutes of play. This allowed the offense to be more aggressive in their offensive third.
The Bison found a hole as the game progressed, with all their shots on goal being unanswered throughout the rest of the game. After two saved shots by her teammates, Benjamin finally broke through.
The Bison maintained pressure until the buzzer, with Benjamin almost punching in the game winner. However, a Cougar save kept the game knotted at one, where the score stayed after the clock ran out.
Bethany (4-4-3) will play Franciscan (3-8) in a homecoming week showdown on Wednesday. They will be the first event to play on campus, starting at 4 p.m.
