Bison Defense Stellar in Victory

Bison Defense Stellar in Victory

The Bethany Bison traveled to La Roche University to try to get over the hump to a winning record. The women did just that, locking down on defense after an early goal to grind out a 1-0 victory over the Redhawks.

This was their third win of the season, a mark that matches the last year's Bison who finished 3-10-3.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Bethany found an early weakness in La Roche's set up. After receiving the kickoff, they forced a corner in under a minute. Jada Benjamin had an opportunity to score off the corner, but sailed it high.

  • In only two minutes, Bethany found themselves in the exact same situation from the other side of the field. This time, the Bison capitalized. Avallina Aurilio took the corner and curved it high towards the net. The La Roche goalkeeper wasn't able to get a clean hand on it, resulting in a Bethany goal in less than four minutes.

  • The Bison continued to put shots on goal, finishing the game with nine. They nearly doubled that number in total shots, posting 17.

  • Bethany controlled the ball for much of the second half. Their offense would consistently string together attacks in the box. Out of halftime, the Bison put up 10 unanswered shots. Five of those shots were saved by the Redhawks.

  • The Bison were unable to convert any of those shots to a goal, but they didn't need it. The defense warded off two late attempts by the Redhawks to maintain a one goal lead until the buzzer.

  • Goalkeeper Hope Fair posted her second consecutive shutout. She had five saves.

Bethany (3-2-1) will hope to carry that win back home against Wilmington (OH). The Bison will host the Quakers this Saturday, September 21. Kickoff is set for 1pm.
