Bethany’s Fullbright Earns Capital One Academic All-District II Honors

Oct. 29 – BETHANY, W. Va. - Bethany College women's soccer junior Brittany Fullbright (Wadsworth, Ohio/Wadsworth) has been named a Capital One Academic All-District II selection, announced the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Thursday afternoon.

To be eligible, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, and have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at their current institution. All Division III institutions in Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Kentucky, Maryland, New Jersey, Rhode Island and West Virginia make up District II.

Through the regular season, Fullbright has been among the Bison's offensive leaders. She currently ranks second in goals scored (6) and in total points (14). The junior led Bethany to a 3-2 win over Marietta College on September 1 as she tallied a goal and four shots. Fullbright then exploded for a hat trick in a 5-4 victory over Mt. Aloysius on September 9, including a perfect two-for-two in penalty kicks.

"Brittany is the hardest working, most dedicated player that I've had the honor of coaching during my entire coaching career," remarked head coach Peter Parikakis of his junior midfielder. "Her leadership on the field and her passion makes her someone the girls look up to."

In the classroom, Fullrbight also excels, as she currently holds a 3.96 GPA in biology and biochemistry. She is the current President of the Bethany Chapter of the Tri-Beta National Biological Honor Society. Fullbright also received the Richard B. Kenny award for leadership.

Coach Parikakis added, "I'm so proud of Brittany for all she has done in her short time here at Bethany College.  She truly sets the standard in which all other student-athletes should strive to reach."
