Bethany Women's Soccer Drops 3-1 Decision to Hiram College

Sept. 21 – BETHANY, W. Va. – The Bethany College women's soccer team was defeated 3-1 by Hiram College on Monday night at Bison Stadium.

Hiram College jumped out to a quick lead as Katelyn Mauch found the back of the net in the fifth minute to make it a 1-0 game.

The Terriers kept the ball on Bethany' s side of the field most of the first half, but stellar defending by the Green & White kept it a one-goal game.

The Bison were finally rewarded for their hard work when Michaela Hinerman (Weirton, W. Va./Brooke) got loose on a breakaway and fired one past the keeper to even up the contest in the 39th minute.

Hiram College quickly responded, tallying a goal just twenty three seconds later to retake the lead before the intermission. Bison goalkeeper Taylor Sasak (Berea, Ohio/Berea) faced 21 shots in the first half, recording nine saves.

The Terriers added to their lead early in the second period as Mauch scored her second goal of the match. She led Hiram College with five shots.

The Green & White were led offensively by Hinerman, who totaled four shots in the contest. It was her fourth goal of the season.

Sasak had another strong outing in net despite the Bison defense struggling to contain the Terrier attack at times. The sophomore goalie tallied 12 saves in the contest.

The Bison will return to the pitch on Wednesday, September 23 when they welcome the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg to Hoag Field at 5:00 p.m.
