Bethany Women’s Soccer Defeated by Waynesburg

Oct. 3 – BETHANY, W. Va. – The Bethany College women's soccer team was defeated 6-1 by Waynesburg University on Saturday morning.

The Bison (2-6-1) defense was locked in early as the Yellow Jackets (4-4) came out as the aggressors. Bethany goaltender Taylor Sasak (Berea, Ohio/Berea) had seven saves in the first half on nine Yellow Jacket shots.

Waynesburg, however, managed to sneak one by Sasak to take the lead in the 40th minute of action. The Yellow Jackets took a 1-0 advantage into the intermission.

Waynesburg quickly added to their lead in the 52nd minute as Karleigh Murphey found the back of the net.

The Green & White wasted no time with their response as Michaela Hinerman (Weirton, W. Va./Brooke) beat the Yellow Jackets goaltender to make it a 2-1 game. Hinerman led the Bethany offense with six shots in the contest.

That was as close as the Bison would get in the match. Waynesburg added two quick goals to extend their lead to 4-1 in the 56th and 62nd minutes.

The Yellow Jackets received two more scores from Jesse Serra late in the period.

Sasak finished with 12 saves on 22 Yellow Jacket shots. It was the sophomore's eighth double-digit save total on the year.

Juniors Marena Cline (Follansbee, W. Va./Brooke) and Julie Slezak (Latrobe, Pa./Greater Latrobe) along with freshman Lindsey Cornish (McKeesport, Pa./South Allegheny) and sophomore Andrea Precurato (Austintown, Ohio/Austintown Fitch) each recorded a shot on goal.

The Bison will be back in action on Wednesday, October 7 when they take on Chatham at 4:00 p.m.
