Women's Soccer tabbed ninth in PAC Preseason Poll

Andrew Woodley, Sports Information Director

GREENVILLE, Pa. (Aug. 25) – The Bethany College Women's Soccer team was selected to finish ninth in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Preseason Poll announced Friday afternoon.

Thomas More was selected as the preseason-favorite, followed by Grove City, Washington & Jefferson and Chatham in the top-four. Thomas More won its sixth-straight PAC Championship Tournament title with a 1-0 victory over third-seeded Grove City last fall, marking the fifth-consecutive season that the Saints and the Wolverines have met in the conference final.

The Bison, led by second-year Head Coach Jon Arlet, are coming off of a 3-13-1 season in 2016, but are set to return senior Michaela Hinerman (Weirton, W.Va./Brooke), who led the team in points last year.

Bethany will lean on the experiences of its five seniors this season, but will look to a few new faces to play key roles this upcoming season. Freshman goalkeeper Maria Concha Vazquez (Queretaro, Mexico/Thomas Jefferson) and freshman Riley Meyers (DuBois, Pa./DuBois Central Catholic) were both tabbed "Players to Watch" by the league office for this upcoming campaign.

The Bison will open the season at the Defiance College Purple & Gold Classic on Saturday, September 2 when they face Heidelberg in a non-conference match at 1 p.m.
