Bethany falls to Heidelberg in season-opener

DEFIANCE, Ohio (Sept. 2) - The Bethany College women's soccer team was defeated by Heidelberg 4-0 in the team's season-opening match at the Defiance Purple & Gold Classic Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • After a scoreless 42 minutes, the Student Princes notched the game's first goal when a Heidelberg shot deflected off of a Bethany player and went into the net.
  • Heidelberg scored goals in the 60th and 62nd minutes to pull out to a 3-0 lead.
  • The Student Princes added a fourth marker in the 83rd-minute to secure the win.

MATCH NOTES

  • Freshman Maria Concha Vazquez (Queretaro, Mexico/Thomas Jefferson) made 10 saves, while making her collegiate debut.
  • Bethany was out-shot 25-to-1 in the match, with senior Ashley Borsch (Richmond, Ohio/Edison) attempting the team's lone shot-on-goal.
