BETHANY, W.Va. (Sept. 30) - The Bethany College women's soccer team was defeated 1-0 by Alfred on Homecoming at Hoag Field Saturday afternoon in a non-conference match.

THE MATCHUP

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • After playing in a double-overtime conference match less than 24 hours prior, the Bison offense was limited to one shot attempt in the first half.
  • The Saxons scored the eventual game-winning goal in the 25-minute on a ball that was beyond the box off of a throw-in and sent into the back of the net.
  • Bethany was limited to two shots in the second half and put its best pressure on Alfred towards the end of the game.
  • Senior Michaela Hinerman (Weir, W.Va./Brooke) attempted a shot in the 89th-minute that needed to be stopped by an Alfred defender to preserve the Saxons' one-goal lead and clinch the win.

MATCH NOTES

  • Freshman Maria Concha Vazquez (Queretaro, Mexico/Thomas Jefferson) played the first half and finished with a pair of saves, while senior Anna Riddle (Mount Pleasent, Pa./Mount Pleasent) played the second half and tallied three saves.
  • Alfred finished the match with a 15-to-3 advantage in shots and attempted 10 corner kicks.
