Baseball: Bison earn sixth straight win in victory over Red Hawks

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Bethany College baseball team's winning streak extended to six after a narrow, 8-7 win over La Roche University Friday afternoon.

The Bison struck first scoring back-to-back runs in the second inning. Josh Speaker grounded out to the third baseman, allowing Luke Beatty to score. Moments later, Hayden Fox hit a sacrifice fly to drive in Grant Schaffner. In the bottom half of the inning, the Red Hawks scored on a wild pitch. The Bison led 2-1 after two innings of play. Both teams scored a run in the third inning.

In the fifth inning, the Bison plate four runs to balloon their lead to 7-2. The Red Hawks kept battling, cutting the deficit to 7-4. Derek Black scored on an error from the third baseman to give the Bison their final run of the day. In the bottom of the 8^th, the Red Hawks have three runs score bringing them within one. With runners on first and second, Kieb hits a ball to right field, Mike Hines riffles a bullet home to Keith Berger to gun out the Red Hawk attempting to knot the game. The Bison would hold on to win the game.

Bison Leaders

• Josh Speaker led the Bison with two RBIs.
• Nick Roell led the Bison with two runs scored. He had a team-high three hits with teammate Colton Stoneman.
• Payton Zupko picked up the win while Zach Nolf earned his third save of the season.
