Baseball: Fielding mistakes lead Terriers past Bison

BETHANY, W.Va. – Looking to bounce back after being swept for the first time this season last Monday, the Bison hosted Hiram at home. The Terriers scored four times in the top of the first as a result of several Bethany errors in route to an 11-2 win.

Hiram quickly loaded the bases against Bison starter Kyle D'Angela before a throwing error cleared the bases and gave the visitors an early three-run lead. A single quickly extended that advantage to four before D'Angela was able to get out of the inning.

Two innings later in the top of the third, Hiram would strike again with a double to left field that scored a pair and gave the Terriers a 6-0 lead in the early stages of the contest.

Down but not out, Bethany would plate a pair in the bottom of the fourth as Nick Roell singled to center which allowed Stoneman to score before Josh Speaker drove in Roell.

With their lead down to four, the Terriers would respond with an insurance run in the fifth on a single off of reliever Felix Perez. They would go on to put up a trio of runs in the eighth on a single and double before an unearned run on a throwing error brought in another in the ninth.

The Green and White used nine different pitchers today in a bullpen game as non-conference action winds down. Zach Nolf, Alec Berg, Logan Mayhle, and Christian Simmons all threw scoreless innings for the Bison. Despite giving up two runs, Payton Zupko led pitchers with two strikeouts.

The Bison return to the diamond in less than 48 hours on a trip up to Greenville, Pa. for a doubleheader with Thiel to open PAC play. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
