Drew VonScio, Student Assistant for Athletic Communications

GROVE CITY, Pa. – Bethany's baseball team hit the road Saturday afternoon to take on Grove City College. The offense struggled to produce as the hosts defeated the Green and White by scores of 14-1 and 12-2.

The Wolverines got off to an early 3-0 lead through the first two innings of play. Grove City then added a pair more in the bottom of the fourth.

Bethany scored their lone run of the game with a Grant Schaffner double to left center scoring Derek Black. Grove City would then get the bats going in the bottom of the fifth when they sealed the Bison's fate for the opening game as they put up a whopping nine runs. The Green and White were limited to just three hits in the 14-1 loss.

Kyle D'Angela went four innings where he gave up seven earned runs and struck out two. Logan Mayhle and Felix Perez combined for the final two innings and saw Mayhle concede seven (five earned).

In game two, Grove City kept the momentum going as they got off to an early three-run lead in the bottom of the first. The hosts then posted five more in the bottom of the second to pull ahead by eight.

Schaffner's bat continued to produce as he doubled to left and scored Luke Beatty. Josh Speaker singled to left in the top of the fourth to plate Colton Stoneman. The Wolverines then scored two in the sixth and two in the seventh to cruise to a 12-2 win.

Christian Simmons started the second game on the hill where he gave up eight earned runs in two innings and struck out one. Logan Bennett pitched three scoreless innings of relief before Speaker turned to the mound and gave up four earned in the final inning.

It will be a quick turnaround for Bethany as they return to action Sunday against Chatham. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
