Drew VonScio, Student Assistant for Athletic Communications

BETHANY, W.Va. - Bethany hosted Waynesburg in another PAC doubleheader Saturday afternoon at Bethany Park. Devin Toothman's three-run homerun led the way for the Bison en route to winning game one 9-6 before dropping game two 16-6.

The Green and White scored the first three runs of the game in the bottom of the first when Alec Berg doubled to right center, scoring Luke Beatty and Colton Stoneman. Derek Black then singled to plate Alec Berg.

Waynesburg would get a pair of runs back in the top of the third before Toothman went deep for the first time as a Bison scoring Tyler McKee, Derek Black, and then he crossed the plate himself.

Over the fifth and sixth innings, the Yellow Jackets would rally to score four unanswered runs and knot the game up at six runs each.

Josh Speaker would put Bethany ahead for good in the bottom of the eighth with a single to center that scored Derek Black and Colin Thomas. Michael Hines would add an insurance run courtesy of a defensive error.

Trey Mantle went 5.2 innings, giving up six earned runs and striking out a batter. Zach Nolf collected the win in the final 3.1 innings where he fanned two Yellow Jackets.

Game two had a much different outlook as it was Waynesburg who scored the opening three runs in the top of the first. Bethany would tie the game up in the bottom half of the inning with an Alec Berg double that plated Colton Stoneman and Nick Roell. Luke Beatty then blasted his first homerun of the season.

Waynesburg would respond with four more in the top of the second before a Stoneman double scored Roell and McKee in the home half of the inning.

The Yellow Jackets would surge in the fourth and seventh innings as they posted eight consecutive runs that primed themselves to salvage a series split. In the bottom of the ninth, Black reached first safely on an error and picked up the RBI when he scored Jake McGlumphy.

Mark Lavezza went just 3.2 innings where he conceded nine runs (six earned) and set down two hitters. Kyle D'Angela and Payton Zupko would combine for the final 5.1 innings giving up seven earned runs.

The Green and White are back in action Wednesday afternoon when they host Allegheny in a doubleheader. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m.
