Bison Field Hockey Places Four On NFHCA National Academic Squads

March 23 – CHANDLER, Ariz. – Led by sophomore Morgan Turner (Frederick, Md./Frederick), the Bethany College field hockey program placed four athletes on the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division III National Academic Squad, announced the NFHCA on Wednesday.

The National Academic Squad recognizes those student-athletes who have achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher through the first semester of the 2015-16 academic year. Additionally, the NFCHA also recognizes Scholars of Distinction honors for students who have achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.9 or higher.

Turner earned her first academic award from NFCHA, garnering distinction honors. The sophomore, a psychology major, posted a 3.97 average through her first three semesters at Bethany. Turner also performed well on the field, totaling career highs in both goals (5) and points (10).

Along with Tuner's honor, three other Bison were named to the National Academic Squad, including freshman Sierra Cuellar (Aberdeen, Md./Aberdeen), sophomore Angelica Darling (Silver Spring, Md./Springbrook) and senior Danielle Maddex (Eden, N.Y./Eden).

Cuellar, a psychology (pre-physical therapy) major finished the 2015-16 fall semester with a cumulative GPA of 3.42. Maddex and Darling, who both are majoring in physical education, have also seen success in the classroom, posting cumulative GPAs of 3.86 and 3.52, respectively.

"This is a great award for our athletes," remarked second-year head coach Kylie Hrehor. "When I first took over as head coach, one of our biggest goals was to be successful in the classroom. The awards that these four student-athletes have been able to earn are helping us take strides in the right direction."
