Bison Roll to 5-1 Win Over Cedar Crest

Sept 4 – BETHANY, W. Va. - The Bethany College field hockey team defeated Cedar Crest College 5-1 at Bison Stadium on Friday night. The victory gives the 2015 Bison a 2-0 record, the best start since the team's reboot in 2012.

Bethany (2-0) trailed 1-0 early after Hannah Gouck found the back of the net for the Falcons (0-2) at the seven-minute mark. However, the Bison remained undaunted as Natalie Knauer (West Deptford, N.J./Gateway Regional) quickly tied the game under a minute later after a pass from senior T.J. Solomon (Beltsville, Md./Elizabeth Seton).

From that point on, it was Bethany's night. Sophomore Angelica Darling (Silver Spring, Md./Springbrook) scored her first goal of the season five minutes later on a pass from senior Courtney Gill (Little Egg Harbor, N.J./Pinelands Regional), and the Bison never looked back. The defense for the Green & White was stellar, allowing just one more shot the entire game.

Solomon continued the charge for the Bison as she added two goals of her own, one before halftime and one just a minute into the second half to make it a 4-1 game. The multi-goal game was Solomon's second of the season, giving her four goals on the year.

Freshman Sierra Cuellar (Aberdeen, Md./Aberdeen) scored the final goal of the game at the 47-minute mark. It was the first goal of her young Bison career and gave Bethany a very comfortable cushion.

The Green & White ended the game with 26 total shots, 21 of those on goal. Both mark the highest totals since the program was rebooted in 2012. Junior Lauren Rao (North Tonawanda, N.Y./Sweet Home) and Courtney Gill added six shots each.

Falcon goalkeeper Andi Dargis recorded 15 saves as she was busy trying to contain the relentless Bison offensive attack.

Bethany returns to action on Sunday, September 6 when they take on Randolph-Macon at Bison Stadium.
