Six Reach Double Figures in Win

HOUGHTON, N.Y. - For the second consecutive season, the Bethany College men's basketball team opened the season with a victory as the Bison knocked off Houghton College Friday, 108-92, in non-conference action.  

A 15-2 run early in the second half allowed the Bison to take control of the game, boosting Bethany to the 11-point lead. Four different players scored in the game-changing spurt. 

The first half featured eight lead changes and eight ties with Bethany holding a lead as much as six points. Senior Ryan Reasbeck scored the last five points of the half to knock the score at halftime. In his Bethany debut, he finished with 21 points on 9-of-13 shooting with four rebounds, four assists, and four steals.  

Senior Troy Hixson tied a career-high with 24 points on 9-of-18 shooting, including 5-of-11 from beyond the arc. He added eight boards, three steals, and two assists. Sophomore Will Brooks stuffed the stat sheet with 14 points, six rebounds, five steals and five assists.  

Junior Cole Dailey secured the double-double late but finished with 14 points and a team-high 10 rebounds.

  • Six of the eight players that scored reached double figures.  

  • Dailey now has 18 career double-doubles.  

  • Bethany has now scored at least 100 points in back-to-back openers. 

  • The Bison shot just 48 percent (12-of-25) from the free throw line.  

  • Houghton connected on 46.7 percent from three-point range in the first half, but Bethany held the Highlanders to just 25 percent (3-of-12) in the second half.  

  • Each team committed 22 turnovers. 

  • The game featured 13 lead changes and nine ties.  

  • Bethany was plus-20 on the glass (53-33). 

Bethany (1-0) plays its home opener 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, hosting Penn State Beaver.
