Bison Slam 75 Point Half; Dailey Breaks Block Record

Bison Slam 75 Point Half; Dailey Breaks Block Record

HUMMEL FIELD HOUSE – The Bison secured an electric come from behind victory over Mount Aloysius College (MAC). Bethany scored 75 points in the second half to boost them over the Mounties 109-98. At one point, the Bison were down 20 points in the first half.

During all of the offensive chaos, Cole Dailey became the all-time leader in career blocks. The forward has another outstanding defensive game finishing with eight blocks, eight defensive rebounds, and two steals.

Two Bison posted a career high game in points. Troy Hixson had 27 points shooting 10-for-16 from the floor. Will Brooks shot over 50% on his way to 21 points.

Despite having 27 points, Hixson wasn't the clear points leader for the Bison. He tied Ryan Reasbeck. The transfer was once again lights out, shooting 9-of-11 with five threes. He also sank all four of his free throws.

It might be expected from looking at the 75 point second half box score, but the Bison really started to turn it up after a slow start. The energy in Hummel Field House began to change around the 18th minute of the second half. That's when the Bison, still down by 15 points, began to go on a run. Ben Guffey hit a deep three pointer that lit a fire under Brooks, who served as the catalyst for the team for the next stretch.

Brooks received a defensive rebound before serving a beauty of a pass to Reasbeck for a wide open three. After a fast break, Brooks made a layup of his own. He then faked a jumper to open enough space to find Reasbeck down low for another Bethany bucket. Despite MAC breaking up that series with two layups of their own, the Bison built all the confidence they needed in that stretch.

Brooks was eventually the player who took the lead from the Mounties with seven minutes left on the clock. In less than 20 seconds, Brooks splashed a pair of threes for an 84-82 lead.

After trading scores, the Bison went on an 11 point run to make the game 99-88. From there on out, the Green and Gold never looked back. A few flush free throws finalized the game and a Bethany victory.

INSIDE THE BOX & NOTES

  • The Bison only shot 38.2% in the first half. They shot a filthy 72.2% as a team in the second.

  • Dailey's eight blocks were a large part of the team's 11 total. MAC didn't have a single block.

  • The Bison had 22 defensive rebounds, which accounted for 75.8% of their boards (22/29).

  • Three players accounted for 75 points: Reasbeck (27), Hixson (27), and Brooks (21).

Bethany (5-0) will look to ride the hot trail into a conference game next Wednesday. The Bison will travel to Waynesburg (1-4) to play game two of a Presidents Athletic Conference double-header. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
