Women's Lacrosse: Bison fall to Pioneers in season opener

BETHANY- Women's Lacrosse hosted the first game of the year in a non-conference matchup against Marietta. The Bison fell to the Pioneers 24-5.

The Basics

Final Score: Marietta 24, Bethany 5

How It Happened

  • To start the game, three goals happened all within a minute of one another. Marietta was the first to strike on a Hope Adams unassisted goal. Bethany's Abbie Carpenter tied the game for a split second on the very next possession. Marietta retook the lead on a Mallory Wiles goal, putting the Pioneers up 2-1.

  • Jada Carter answered for the Bison with an unassisted goal to cut the lead in half 4-2 with half of the first period remaining.

  • Marietta controlled the rest of the period. They carried a 7-2 lead into the second.

  • The Pioneers extended their lead in the second. The first goal happened when Natalie Co dumped the ball off to Sophi Merikel in the thick of it. Merikel weaved through the mess and found the back of the net for a goal.

  • That theme persisted through the remainder of the first half. Marietta was up 15-2 at half.

  • Lexie Reid scored the first goal of the last half for the Bethany Bison. Her score came halfway through the third period. That goal was quickly followed up by a goal from Karley Trinidad. Bethany still trailed 21-4 at the end of the quarter.

  • The Bison were unable to amount to a comeback in the final quarter. They drop the first game of the year.
