Women's Lacrosse: Late surges lifts Fighting Muskies past Bison

NEW CONCORD, Ohio – The Bethany College women's lacrosse team competed against Muskingum University in a non-conference matchup Wednesday evening.  

THE BASICS

Final Score: Muskingum 22, Bethany 15

Records: Muskingum (5-2, 0-0 OAC), Bethany (2-2, 0-0 PAC)  

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Muskingum scored the first four goals of the game. The first two were less than thirty seconds apart.
  • Bethany's Abbie Carpenter scored the first goal of the game for the Bison. Muskingum added another goal to take a 5-1 lead. Momentum shifted to the Bison in the final five minutes of the period, scoring five goals to take a 6-5 lead. Carpenter scored her second goal while Jada Carter scored twice. Gracie Gonzales and Karley Trinidad both contributed goals of their own in the first.
  • To lead off the second period, the Muskies scored six unanswered goals to take an 11-6 lead. Bethany's Carpenter scored two goals to complete the hat trick and bring the Bison deficit to 12-8 at the halftime break.
  • Lexie Reid scored the first goal of the second half, however, Muskingum tacked on three more goals to take a 15-9 lead. The Bison cut the lead to four after back-to-back goals from the Bison. Karley Trinidad scored and then assisted a Jada Carter goal.
  • Muskingum scored with two minutes to go in the third to extend the lead to five.
  • The Bison and Muskies exchanged back and forth goals in the fourth period with the Muskies taking a 6-4 advantage to take the game, 22-15.

BY THE NUMBERS

  • Muskingum outshot Bethany, 51-27.
  • The Muskies went 1-for-7 on free position shots while the Bison went 3-for-5.
  • The Bison had 21 turnovers while the Muskies had 16.
