Men's Basketball: Bethany Hits Century Mark to Collect First Win

Steubenville, Ohio – The Bethany College Men's basketball team battled with the Franciscan Barons for a 103-100 victory to open Presidents' Athletic Conference play Wednesday evening. The Bison had five score in double figures led by senior Derek White Jr.'s triple-double performance. White Jr. had a team-high 20 points, 13 assists and 12 rebounds.

GAME FLOW

  • Asa Klimchock lifted the lid for Bethany scoring the first points of the game on the Bison's first possession.
  • The Barons jumped to a 7-4 lead, but the Bison battled to string together a 9-0 run.
  • It was a see-saw game for much of the first half. Both the Bison and Barons led by as many as six points in the first half.
  • Heading into the break the game was deadlocked 57-57.
  • Coming out of the break, both teams struggled to score in the first two minutes of play.
  • The Bison strung together their largest run (12-0) of the game to take a 74-65 lead.
  • Bethany lead by as many as 11 points in the second half, but the Barons kept clawing back to keep the Green and White lead close.
  • The Barons went on an 8-0 run of their own to bring the game within three, 94-91 with less than six minutes remaining.
  • The Bison reached the century mark first after Brendan Riggs laid in a fast break layup to give the Bison a 101-93 lead with three minutes left in regulation.
  • Bethany held off the Barons despite a final 7-1 run.

BY THE NUMBERS

  • 103 – The men hit the century mark for the first time since the 2015-16 season. The Bison defeated Penn State-DuBois 100-67.
  • 50.0% - The Bison shot 50 percent (13-for-26) from behind the arc.
  • 28 – Bethany had 28 turnovers resulting into 39 points for the Barons.
  • 87 – The Barons took 87 shots compared to the Bison's 67 shots.
