Women's Tennis Upended by Geneva

Oct. 8 – BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – The Bethany College women's tennis team was handed an 8-1 defeat by Geneva College on Thursday afternoon.

After dropping all three points in doubles play, the Bison captured one point in singles action. Freshman Pia Hager (Stuttgart, Germany) was the lone winner for the Green & White, defeating Sara Stoll in straight sets (6-3, 6-3) to earn her ninth win of the season.

Hager is now 9-1 on the season, holding the top winning percentage in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (.900).

Other top performances for the Bison included Alyssa Smydo (Bentleyville, W. Va./Bentworth) and Haleigh Brooks (Martinsburg, W. Va./Martinsburg). Smydo dropped her contest at No. 4 singles to Samantha Jensen (6-0/6-3), while Brooks fell 6-1, 6-1 at No. 6 singles to Megan Sewyer.

The Bison will be back in action on Friday, as they return to the Mary Ewing Tennis Center to take on Franciscan University in non-conference action. The matchup is scheduled for a 4 p.m. start.
