Bethany Tennis Falls 8-1 to La Roche

Sept. 7 – PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Bethany College women's tennis team received another solid effort from freshman Pia Hager, but ultimately fell by an 8-1 score to La Roche College on Monday afternoon in Pittsburgh.

The Bison found themselves trailing 3-0 after doubles action. Hager (Stuttgart, Germany) and partner Anna Heizler (Stegan, Germany) put up the biggest fight at number one doubles, falling to Sarah Brunner and Kristen King by an 8-6 score.

The lone point for the Bison once again came from Hager, who has opened her singles career at 3-0. Competing at No. 1 singles, Hager defeated the Brunner in straight sets, winning her singles match by scores of 6-1 and 6-2.

The other top singles performance of the day came from Alyssa Smydo (Bentleyville, W. Va./Bentworth) at number four singles. The freshman dropped the first set by a 6-1 score to Chardai Guthrie. However, Smydo continued to play hard, pushing Guthrie to the brink in set two, narrowly falling 7-5.

The Bison will be back in action on Friday, September 11 when they travel to Washington, Pa. to open Presidents' Athletic Conference play against Washington & Jefferson College. The matchup is scheduled for a 3:30 p.m. start.
