Men's Basketball Clips Cougars

Bethany, W.Va – The Bethany College men's basketball team hosted the Chatham University Cougars Saturday afternoon, inside Hummel Field House in front of an electric crowd. The Bison won the battle over the Cougars, 74-69. Dalton Hamrick led the Green and White with 18 points and Trey Shifflett contributed 17 points.

GAME OVERVIEW

The Cougars jumped out to an 8-2 lead in the opening minutes. Both teams struggled to put the ball in the hoop, combining for a low 35 points with under ten minutes to go in the first half. Chatham held onto a narrow lead, 20-15. Bethany clawed their way back to take the lead after a pair of Derek White Jr. free throws, with under five minutes to go in the half.

The Bison continued to build on their lead with 48 seconds left in the half, Craig Sauers hit a jumper for the Green and White to take a 35-29 lead into the break.

The Cougars opened up the second half by retaking the lead. The Bison and Cougars went neck and neck in the second half. Chatham took a seven point lead at one point in the second half. The Green and White chipped their way back into the game after Trey Shifflett hit a shot from behind the arc bringing the Bison within one, 44-43.

A Trey Shifflett old fashion three point play would once again bring the Bison within one, 47-46 with 12:12 to go in the second half. A Dalton Hamrick jumper gave Bethany the lead again with under ten minutes to go in the game. The Bison held onto the narrow lead for the remainder of the game. Free throws in the final minute sealed the Bethany win.
