Men's Basketball: Bison comeback falls short in 89-81 loss to Yellow Jackets

BETHANY, W.Va. – Bethany College men's basketball team comeback fell short against Waynesburg University Saturday afternoon. The Yellow Jackets defeated the Bison 89-81.

GAME FLOW

  • The Yellow Jackets held momentum for majority of the game. Waynesburg started the game on a quick 9-0 run.
  • Cole Dailey scored Bethany's first bucket four minutes into the game. Trailing 16-8, Bethany went on a run to knot the game at 16-16, then Will Brooks converted a turnover into points, giving the Bison their first lead of the game. The Bison led by as many as seven.
  • With just under six minutes to go in the first half, the Yellow Jackets battled back and regained the lead. The Yellow Jackets finished the first half on a 23-4 run.
  • Waynesburg led 45-33 at the half.
  • The Yellow Jackets led by as many as 18 in the second half.
  • The Bison continued to battle to get back into the game. Cole Dailey hit a three to cut the deficit to 10 with 2:35 to go. After a pair of Chance Wells' free throws, the Bison were down to a single-digit deficit. However, the Bison comeback would not be complete as the Yellow Jackets were able to seal the win with foul shots.

BY THE NUMBERS

  • Waynesburg shot 58.1 percent followed by a 46.2 percent shooting performance from behind the arc.  Bethany was held to 39.1 percent and 23.1 from behind arc.
  • The Yellow Jackets edged the Bison on the boards, 36-33.
  • Bethany was 25-for-35 from the foul line while Waynesburg went 11-for-22.
