Men's Basketball: Bison drop PAC bout with Gators

MEADVILLE, Pa. – Bethany College men's basketball team comeback fell short against Allegheny College Tuesday evening. The Gators held off the Bison, 88-84 for their first PAC win of the season.  

GAME FLOW

  • The Gators scored first to get the game started.
  • Bethany's Troy Hixson scored a three pointer to knot the game at 3-3. After battling back to cut the deficit to four, the Gators would go on a 13-0 run to go ahead 28-11, holding the Bison scoreless for six minutes.
  • Chance Wells broke the Gators run with a layup. The Bison used an 11-0 run of their own to stampede back in the game.
  • The Gators would go ahead by as many as 13 but the Bison would not back down cutting the margin to five before the break.
  • An old-fashioned three-point play from Wells cut the lead to two, 38-36 to open the second half. After exchanging baskets, the Bison knotted the game at 48-48 after Will Brooks hit a shot from behind the arc. The Bison took their first lead of the second half with 13:47 to go after Troy Hixson hit back-to-back three's. Bethany led by as many as six over the course of the next five minutes.
  • The Gators continued to battle and deadlocked the game at 60-60 and took the lead just seconds later. After an 11-0 run, the Gators held a five point lead.
  • With under five minutes to go, Will Brooks nailed a jumper deadlocking the game at 73-73. However, the Gators would regain the lead after a pair of free throws. With under two minutes to go, the Gators held a lead that the Bison could not catch up to. Despite coming within two, after a Brooks three with 24 seconds to go, the Bison were unable to capitalize later on.

IN THE BOX SCORE

  • Five Bison scored 10+ points.
  • The Bison were led by Chance Wells with 22 points.
  • Will Brooks and Cole Dailey recorded double-doubles.
  • Brooks had 15 points and 10 rebounds.
  • Dailey added 11 points and a team-high 17 rebounds. He added six assists and three blocks.
  • Troy Hixson had 14 points shooting 4-for-7 from behind the arc.
  • Tony Fox added 10 points.

BY THE NUMBERS

  • Allegheny had 21 points off of 15 Bethany turnovers.
  • The Bison had 14 second chance points.
  • Bethany held the slight advantage on the boards, out rebounding Allegheny, 44-41.
