Men's Basketball: Second half surge lifts Geneva past Bethany

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – Bethany College men's basketball suffered an 82-65 road loss to Geneva College Saturday afternoon.

GAME FLOW

  • Sophomore Cole Dailey lifted the scoring lid to start the game. The Bison and Golden Tornadoes would battle and exchange the lead through the opening couple of minutes. After the first five minutes of play, the Golden Tornadoes held a narrow four point lead, but the Bison would go on an 8-0 run to swing the lead to the Green and White by four.
  • After being knotted at 17-17, Bethany used another 8-0 run to take the lead with under seven minutes to go in the first half. Geneva continued to stay close to Bethany, battling back to take the lead away from the Bison for the final time in the first half.
  • Geneva led 34-31 at the halftime break.
  • The Bison opened the second half with a layup from Troy Hixson and a three from Colin Meany to knot the game at 36-36. The teams exchanged buckets back and forth keeping the game close. Ben Guffey would cut the deficit to one after hitting a fade away three with just over 12 minutes to go in the game. The Golden Tornadoes went on a (49-48) 16-3 run over the next four minutes.
  • Bethany snapped the run with a free throw from Troy Hixson and a fast break layup off a steal from Tony Fox. Unfortunately for the Bison, the 11 point deficit would be the closest that the Bison would get over the remainder of the game. The Golden Tornadoes led by as many as 19 points.

IN THE BOX SCORE

  • Cole Dailey led the Bison with 18 points and pulled down seven rebounds and dished five assists.
  • Tony Fox and Troy Hixson both added 11 points each. Fox had a team high four steals.

BY THE NUMBERS

  • Geneva shot 51.7% (31-of-60) from the field. Bethany went 36.1% (26-of-72). The Golden Tornadoes hit 12 threes while Bethany had six.
  • Bethany shot a cold 43.8% from the charity stripe.
  • The Golden Tornadoes outrebounded the Bison, 49-34.
  • The Bison forced 17 Golden Tornadoes turnovers while having only seven turnovers.

Bethany will return to the court on Jan. 10 when they travel to Franciscan University for a PAC matchup beginning at 6:30 pm.
