Men's Basketball: Bison defeat Presidents for first time since 2018

WASHINGTON, Pa. – Bethany College men's basketball team earned a big 89-76 PAC road victory over Washington & Jefferson College Saturday afternoon.

GAME FLOW

  • Both teams went back and forth throughout the first half. After being tied at 11-11, the Bison would go ahead after Tony Fox hit a three. The three would spark a 14-0 run for the Bison. W&J broke the run after being held scoreless for over two minutes. The Bison would hold a double-digit lead for the remainder of the half. With under thirty seconds to go in half, Colin Meany hit a three to give Bethany a 48-33 lead heading into the halftime break.
  • The second half remained in the Bison's control. Ben Guffey led the second half with a made three extending the lead 51-37 and next Bison possession, Cole Dailey came down and hit a three to extend the lead to 54-37. The Presidents chipped away at the Bison the lead, but Bethany would respond in key moments. With under six minutes to go, the Presidents battled back and cut the lead to nine. Troy Hixson would hit a jumper to extend the Bison lead back to double-digits. Jumpers by Hixson and Will Brooks would maintain the double-digit lead for the Bison. Despite the Presidents continuing to chip away the Bison were able to hold off the Presidents, 89-76.

IN THE BOX SCORE

  • Cole Dailey led the Bison with 20 points and 11 rebounds. He chipped in two assists, two steals and one block.
  • Troy Hixson added 19 points.
  • Tony Fox had 14 points followed by Colin Meany with 13.
  • Will Brooks led the Bison on the boards with 12 rebounds. He added eight points and three assists.

BY THE NUMBERS

  • Washington & Jefferson shot 51.7% from the field while Bethany only shot 46.6%.
  • The Bison hit 14 three's while holding the Presidents to one.
  • Bethany scored 24 points off of 15 turnovers.
  • The Bison out rebounded the Presidents, 43-35.
