Men's Basketball: Bethany suffers second half collapse against Saint Vincent

BETHANY, W.Va. – Bethany College men's basketball team were edged by the Saint Vincent College Bearcats in a PAC matchup inside Hummel Field House Saturday afternoon. The Bearcats used a second half comeback to defeat the Bison, 82-79.

GAME FLOW

  • Bethany opened the game on a 7-1 run. The Bison maintained a narrow lead throughout the first half. The Green and White went up by double-digits with 5:18 to go. Cole Dailey drove and made a layup, giving Bethany a 29-19 lead.
  • The Bison closed out the first half with a 15 point lead, leading 44-30.
  • Troy Hixson opened the second half scoring a layup off an offensive rebound, extending the lead to 16 points.
  • The Bearcats went on a 13-3 run to chip away at the Bison lead. Bethany held a one point lead with 15:22 to go. Dailey scored a layup on an offensive rebound to extend the lead to three. Back-to-back buckets by Saint Vincent gave the Bearcats a slim one point lead.
  • Both teams went back and forth over the next couple of minutes.
  • The Bison led 75-74, with 4:17 to go in the game. However, the Bearcats would answer to regain the lead. The Bearcats would hold the narrow lead over the final minute of the game. Trailing by three, the Bison had the final possession to attempt to tie the game, but would fall short.

IN THE BOX SCORE

  • Cole Dailey led the Bison with 19 points. He added eight rebounds, two steals and one block.
  • Troy Hixson added 18 points with three made three-pointers.
  • Tony Fox added 14 points while Chance Wells had 13. Fox had a double-double with a team-high 11 rebounds. He also had a team-high four steals.
  • Off the bench, Jaydis Kennedy added nine points and six rebounds.

BY THE NUMBERS

  • Bethany shot a cold 47.8 percent (11-23) from the charity stripe, while Saint Vincent shot 86.7 percent (13-15).
  • Saint Vincent edged Bethany on the boards (35-33).
  • The Bison scored 20 second chance points.
