Stout Defense Guides WBB to Victory

A 25-6 run to end the first half catapulted the Bethany College women's basketball team to the 63-50 Presidents' Athletic Conference victory over Waynesburg Wednesday on Joe Kurey Memorial Court inside the Hummel Field House.

Bethany's defense held the Yellow Jackets scoreless for eight minutes between the end of the first quarter and the start of the second quarter. The Bison took control by scoring 11 consecutive points during the aforementioned game-changing run.

Another extended run, this one as Bethany tallied 13 of 16 points midway through the third period, extended the BC lead to 17 points heading into the final quarter.

Defense was the key to success as the Bison held Waynesburg to 16.7 percent (5-of-30) shooting over the second and third quarters in which Bethany outscored its opponent 35-15 in the pivotal 20-minute session.

Graduate guard Bella Skobel and senior guard Ashleigh Wheeler scored 11 points each to lead the Bison. Wheeler added seven rebounds and two assists, while Skobel had five rebounds and two steals.

Junior Kaedlee Potter reached double figures for the fourth consecutive game with 10 points, four rebounds, three steals, and a steal. Freshman Abby Blazer was a point shy of a double-double with nine points and a career-high tying 11 rebounds.
