Women's Lacrosse: Bison Fall in Final Minute Against Fighting Muskies

Bethany, W.Va. – The Bethany College women's lacrosse team went down to the wire against the Muskingum University Fighting Muskies Tuesday evening inside Bison Stadium. The Fighting Muskies scored with five seconds left in the game to snag a 16-15 victory from the Bison.

THE BASICS

Final Score: Muskingum 16, Bethany 15         

Records: Bethany (4-3, 0-0), Muskingum (1-3, 0-0)    

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • In a game of multiple lead changes the Bison and Fighting Muskies went down to the final seconds of the game.
  • The Bison led 6-5 after the first period of play.
  • Bethany's Cassidy Mailloux scored three of her five goals in the first period.
  • Bethany scored the first three goals of the second period to give the Bison a three goal lead. Cassidy Mailloux, Rikiah Wise and Abbie Carpenter scored for the Bison in the second period.
  • Muskingum scored the last four goals to deadlock the game at 9-9 heading into the halftime break.
  • In the second half, both teams exchanged goals and the lead see-sawed back and forth.
  • After Muskingum took a 12-11 lead, the Bison scored the next three goals to build a 14-12 lead heading into the final period of play.
  • The fourth period shifted momentum to the Fighting Muskies, with all four goals of Muskingum coming off the stick of Riley Hudock.
  • Bethany was behind, 15-14 with under a minute and half to go when freshman Kaitlin Pickett found the back of the net to knot the game at 15-15 with 1:02 to go in the game.
  • After a Bison turnover, Muskingum scooped up a groundball and ran down the field, with seconds left on the clock the Fighting Muskies earned the one goal difference over the Bison.

BISON TOP PERFORMERS

  • Cassidy Mailloux had five goals and two assists for the Bison. She scooped up four groundballs and caused one turnover. She had five draw controls.
  • Freshman Abbie Carpenter had three goals with five groundballs and two cause turnovers. She added seven draw controls.
  • Rikiah Wise had three goals and two assists on ten shots (nine on goal).
  • Joanna Melita had one goal and one assist.
  • Kaitlin Pickett added one goal and one assist.
  • Alexa Taylor and Karley Trinidad both had one goal each.
  • Trinidad scooped up a team-high six groundballs.
  • Sarah Sberna had a team high four caused turnovers.
  • Trinity Dixon registered 11 saves.

STATS OF THE GAME

  • The Bison outshot the Fighting Muskies 40-31. Muskingum had 23 turnovers while Bethany had 19.
