Women's Lacrosse: Bison Earn OT Victory to get Back in the Win Column

Bethany, W.Va. – The Bethany College women's lacrosse team faced the Earlham College Quakers in a non-conference tilt Sunday afternoon. The Bison used a Cassidy Mailloux game winning goal to take the game from the Quakers in overtime.  

THE BASICS

Final Score: Bethany 8, Earlham 7   

Records: Bethany (5-5, 0-1), Earlham (1-5)      

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Both teams took a while to warm up. The Bison scored the first goal of the game off the stick of Karley Trinidad with 9:13 to go in the first. Earlham answered at the 7:35 mark to knot the game at 1-1.
  • Bethany's Cassidy Mailloux scored to give the Bison the lead heading into the second period.
  • Earlham scored the first two goals in the second period. Bethany deadlocked the game at 3-3 after Rikiah Wise riffled one that found the back of the net.
  • The Quakers led 5-4 heading into halftime.
  • Both teams battled back and forth in the third period. Bison goals in the third period came from Wise who found the back of the net twice and Joanna Melita who scored with 0:18 seconds left on the clock.
  • Earlham deadlocked the game at 7-7 in the fourth. The Bison had opportunities to take the lead but just missed the back of the net hitting the crossbar and post.
  • Just 0:33 seconds into the overtime period of play, Cassidy Mailloux scooped up a rebound groundball and scored to give the Bison the win.

BISON TOP PERFORMERS

  • Senior Rikiah Wise led the Bison with three goals. Wise now has a 15 game goal streak. She has scored a goal every game for the Bison dating back to March 11 in the 2020 season.
  • Cassidy Mailloux and Karley Trinidad both scored two goals and had one assist. Trinidad caused three turnovers.
  • Joanna Melita had one goal for the Bison, while Alexa Taylor had one assist.
  • Abbey Carpenter had two assists while scooping up nine groundballs and causing a team-high five turnovers.
  • Trinity Dixon made a season-high 21 saves.
