Women's Volleyball: Destiny Goodnight has career day; Bison split to end Bishop Inivitational

DELAWARE, Ohio – The Bethany College women's volleyball team closed the Bishop Invitational going 1-1 Saturday afternoon. The Bison started the morning with a 3-1 loss against host, Ohio Wesleyan University, and picked up a 3-2 win over Heidelberg later in the afternoon.

THE MATCHUP

  • OWU 3, Bethany 1 (20-25, 25-16, 25-19, 25-16)
  • Bethany 3, Heidelberg 2 (19-25, 26-24, 16-25, 25-14, 15-9) 

HOW IT HAPPENED

After winning the first set against OWU, Bethany would end up falling 3-1. The Bison offense would struggle to score while the Battling Bishops' offense would heat up in the final three sets of the match.

In the second match, the Bison and Student Princes battled throughout the match. After dropping the first set, 25-19, Bethany would take set two in a neck-and-neck, 26-24 battle. The Student Princes would hand the Bison a 25-16 third set loss, but the Bison would dominate in sets four and five to win, 3-2.

MATCH NOTES

  • Destiny Goodnight registered a team high 12 kills against OWU and a season-high 18 kills against Heidelberg. She finished with 30 kills on the day.
  • Sydney Kirker added 10 kills in match one and added nine in match two.
  • Alaina Torres had 34 assists and 22 digs against OWU and 41 and 13 against Heidelberg. She also had four aces.
  • Riley Felton and Destiny Goodnight earned All-Tournament Team recognition.

The Bison return to the court on Thursday, Sept. 21 when they host PAC rival, Washington & Jefferson in a non-conference matchup at 6 pm.
