Softball Splits Season Opener with Chatham

Pittsburgh, Pa.- The Bethany College softball team opened their 2021 season against the Chatham University Cougars in a non-conference double-header Tuesday afternoon at West Field in Pittsburgh, Pa. The Bison dropped the opener 5-2, but quickly bounced back in game two with a dominating victory, 17-3.  

Game One Overview

Bethany fall to the Cougars, 5-2    

Bethany crossed the plate first with an RBI single off the bat from Jennifer Oberthur, plating Angela Brandel. The Bison held onto the lead until the Chatham took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the third. The Cougars tacked on three more runs throughout the game, while holding the Bison to just one hit. In the sixth inning, Obethur hit a sacrifice fly to right field that allowed Brandel to score. The Bison were unable to plate any more runs and fell 5-2.

Game Two Overview
Bethany defeats Chatham, 17-3

Game two was a complete turnaround from game one for the Bison. Bethany jumped out in front early. Madison Andrejcik drove in two runs for the Bison in the top of the first. Chatham answered back in the bottom half of the inning, deadlocking the game at 2-2. However, the Green and White continued to battle and regained the lead in the top of the second.

Morgan Huey and Angela Brandel doubled back to back both driving in a run a piece. Andrejcik continued the doubles party, driving in three more runs for the Bison. After two innings the Bison held a 8-2 lead.

The Bison continued to keep the offense hot carrying through the rest of the game. The Bison had 17 hits, 10 doubles, and two stolen bases.
